Need to put the object pronoun?

Hi. Please help. Do we need to put the object pronoun "them" in this sentence?

(a person talking)
I just heard that they're going to build some toy cars. Let's see if they've finished building (them?).

I would add "them" as the direct object of "build." It is much more natural that way, even though grammatically, it is not absolutely required..
