Need to put definite article in a certain phrase pattern

Hi. Please help. Do you think the definite article "the" is needed in all the places indicated? I think a person can either put the definite articles or not put in the places indicated. All the example sentences below are written to get grammar help and the sentences might not be true as to whatever they are trying to say.

1. Generally speaking, (the?) early detection of problems is key to treatment.

2. I think, if I am not mistaken and generally speaking, (the?) close obervances of symptoms might reveal the identity of an illness.

3. (what if we drop the word "close" from the above sentence? - Is the placement of the definite article "the" correct?)

4. She had (the?) loss of sight at an early age.
