Need + to-Infinitive

Could you tell me what the difference is between the following sentences? I guess #1 means the speaker needs some books, e.g. for killing time on a train journey while #2 means the speaker need to read more books to accumulate knowledge or improve a foreign language (if they are written in the foreign language). Am I right?

1. I need some books to read.

2. I need to read some books.
