need some clarifications

Not that a little nostalgia doesn't help. The Schwimmer family hails from New York City, but Katherine, 40, has come to Cape Cod--and the Wellfleet Drive-In--since childhood. "I was telling the boys how you could lie down on the roof of the car," she says. "It reminds me of growing up." Riley and Tobey, 7 and 8, saw their first movie at a drive-in. Now, as ever, there's the fresh air. There's the picnic. There's the planetarium array of stars that emerge as the lights-as it were-go down. And there's only so much time to talk about it, Tobey reminds his parents, but not because of any grand predictions about the future of the format. There's the movie, he points out: "It's starting."

the paragraph is from TIME article about a drive-in theater(my apology for asking about something not written by me, don't know where to post.)

This is the last paragraph of the article, and it describes a family who are about to watch a movie in a drive-in. i do understand the main idea, but some trivial matters frustrate me.

"And there's only so much time to talk about it, Tobey reminds his parents, but not because of any grand predictions about the future of the format. "

in this sentence, "only so much time" means a little time or something?

what's "the format?" does it refer to the format of theaters?

to be honest, i don't know how to connect the two phrase. " there's only so much time to talk about it," and "but not because of any grand predictions about the future of the format."'

"they've got no time to talk not because of any grand predictions about drive ins?" that's what i read, but it's still awkward for me.

The theme of this article is the extinction, or near extinction, of drive-in theaters in the US, once ubiquitous across the America (I'm somewhat surprised that there is even one still open). This theme pervades the article, note the words used relating to this theme: nostalgia, since childhood, lie down on the roof of the car, reminds me of growing up, the fresh air, the picnic. The sentence in question again relates to the theme.
