Need not and don't have to (Help!!!)

Need not and don't have to

Replace the words in bold type by need not/need I? etc., or a negative or interrogative have to form.

Example.

Q. It is not necessary for him to go on working. He has already reached retiring age.

A. He does not have to go on working. He has already reached retiring age.

Question.

I missed one day of the exam. Will it be necessary for me to take the whole exam again?

My answer:

I missed one day of the exam. Need I take the whole exam again?

But my answer is incorrect. Could someone explain me this?

Thanks in advance.
