need & need to

Hi all,

What is the difference between "need" and "need to"? For example if I say I need to read this book, it's a true sentence.
But if I say, I need to that book, it isn't a true sentence, but why?

Thanks.

What is the difference between "need" and "need to"? For example if I say I need to read this book, it's a correct sentence.
But if I say, I need to that book, it isn't a correct sentence, but why? Because it has no meaning.
'I need that book.' has a meaning.

Yah guys! The second one is incorrect. The structure is: need to do something or need something...

See the post above, and note the replacement of true with correct.

Your second example seems to run counter to your original question, so I wondered whether it was really what you meant to write.
