"Game Over! Press start to continue." This is a common video game phrase that appears when you fail to achieve your goal. You have two choices. The first choice is to press the start button and try again. The second choice is to give up and walk away. My life was like this message during my 6th and 7th grades.
It all began in 6th grade when I decided to try out for my schools basketball team. I had lots of experience playing basketball from participating in a couple of intramural leagues. To me the basketball tryouts were the ultimate challenge to test my abilities with other kids. At the end of the tryouts the coach posted the roster of the kids who made the basketball team and unfortunately my name was not on the roster. I could not believe my eyes. I looked at the roster again to make sure I had not overlooked my name. My name was nowhere to found. I began to think that this was a horrible nightmare that I had created during my sleep. I was hoping that I would suddenly wake up and find myself lying in bed. Soon the truth had finally sunk in. I had been cut form the basketball team.
When I entered 7th grade I decided to try out for the basketball team again. Before the tryouts began I started to fine tuning my skills by going outside to work on my ball handling and shooting. I even started playing NBA Live on my Playstation to get a better understanding of the game of basketball. The tryouts came and went and yet again I had been cut from the basketball team. I could not believe I had been cut 2 years in a row. During those two years I kept pressing the start button. I did not want to simply give up and forget that this experience never happened. I never made the basketball team, but I always showed up to the tryouts hoping that I could one day make the basketball team.
