It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
People have different views about whether or not school curriculums should include global history. While I agree that nation history has an essential role to play in the schooling of children, I also believe that the history of the world is of paramount importance to students.
On the one hand, I believe that the notion that local history is more valuable than world history should be rejected. Some people claim that learning about the locals is enough for one to live. This argument could be true a decade ago when the communication between people was limited by language borders. However, this view is outdated now because the world has become globalized. International companies and migrant workers have made any country a global village. For example, in order to communicate with foreign customers, firms should inquire about the local culture and languages. As a result, they can provide suitable goods and products for the public.
On the other hand, I also believe that students are able to acquire the best education only when they have a chance to learn about other countries and the world as well. Schoolchildren can gain greater knowledge about the world and their own roots at the same time. To learn and explore about national history, students need to place history events in general context such as the world situation of that time. Hence, they are likely to understand and remember such events naturally. In addition, young leaners can analyze mistakes were made in the past therefore avoiding the same ones in the future. For example, there was economic constrain in 1975 in Vietnam because of World War II. The government surrendered French in the hope of saving Vietnamese economy but did not expect that Vietnam would be dominated by them. Hence, in the future, the current authority in Vietnam should not make that mistake again.
In conclusion, it is wrong to compare transnational history with national history because they are equally important.
