Need Help with explaining verb meanings....

Can anyone please help me understand the differences in meaning that the verbs (with stars next to them) give to these following sentances. I'm trying to learn this grammar stuff. Even though English is my first language, I don't understand these questions.

The example I have been given is this:

I start work at 9:00 every day.
I started work at 9:00 every day in my last job.

Explanation:
First sentance shows a present habit - something that is alwyas true.
Second sentance shows a habit that was true in the past.

----------------

a. I live in Germany,
I am living in Germany

b. Frank and Betty went to Paris last year
Frank and Betty have been to Paris.

c. She drinks when she gets home
She will drink when she gets home. I hate it!

d. She was sleeping while he was kicking on the door.
She had been sleeping for 2 hours when he knocked on the door.
