Need help with exam

Thanks again!:-) Though I can't help thinking about the possible use of "the other" here, since if taking into consideration the notion of "remoteness", then "an hour's drive" in Foyle's quote is definitely about the distance, the one that can be reached at an average speed by a car (let's say, about a hundred km). Really, it isn't as obvious for me to understand why we can't use "the other few thousand miles" for the rest of the distance to reach the point when everything man-made fades from the view(( nevertheless, thank you!!!
