I'm afraid I don't understand what "due nicety" means.

He got out of his car at the street crossing nearest ... something, but I don't know what.

Maybe its because he gets out of his car at the nearest corner for he is ashamed of his car.. anyway, thank you so much =)

The "due nicety" is rather a polite (complicated!) way of saying that he is being "nice" by not showing off his expensive car to others.
