Need help to understand a sentence

Hi friends, it says that : "Notation-A will be preferred unless it is more than B". Here I am confused to understanding the meaning of "unless" used.
Does it says : "I should prefer Notation-A if it is more than B", or it actually says "I should prefer Notation-A if it is less than B".

Thanks for your help.
