Need help. Tense correction.

Hi teachers,

I found this sentence and it looks wrong to me.

'A boy was watching his grandmother writes a letter. At one point, he asked'.

Shouldn't it be?

'A boy was watching his grandmother writing a letter. At one point, he asked'.

Thanks in advance

(PS: You might better call that 'aspect' correction.)
