Need help. Reported Speech

Hi teachers,

How can I connect the two sentences in (b) reported speech please?

a) Coke thought, “I have to take the chance. This is the only place I can find warm clothes and food!”

b) Coke thought (that) he had to take the chance. That was the only place he could find warm clothes and food.

Thank you for your reply. I really didn't know how to do it. So when we have two sentences in reported speech with the reporting verb 'thought' the best is to use a semicolon between them.

I couldn't find any information about it. I only know that with the verb 'answered' we can use ' .. and added ...' to join two sentences.

I agree, except that I wouuld always use 'and' in preference to a semi-colon.
