Hello friends,

My friend ask me to help him with his homework. He gave me short article in my language, and I translated it into english. I really don't know where he found it.

Hennessy, the leader of cognac industry, is one of older company in the world. It was set up by a young Irish immigrant Richard Hennessy in 1775. He had settled down in Charente after he left army of Lui XV to engage in manufacture of cognac.

Hennessy was controlled by descendants of the founder during eight generation. Many years Hennessy cooperated with Martel, another well-know company as well. They combined and improved technology of cognac manufactures, they developed new brands of cognac what gave they affluence and the first-class quality of product.

Their cognacs quickly subdue the entire world; Lui XVI was very delighted with them in 1784. By 1859 this cognac “conquered” India and China. The English queen Victoria who was known for severity of her temper used to love them.

In 1860 Maurice Hennessy hit upon an idea how to mark ripening's degree of cognacs by quantity of stars on label. In five years this marking was widely used in manufacture of cognac. In 1860 Maurice Hennessy was developing recipiency technology of cognacs with brand X.O. Based on this technology they produce up to now. Another Maurice Hennessy in 1944 was the founder of the National Interprofessional Bureau of Cognac.

In 1971, Hennessy had united with Moet and Chandon group which making champagne, then they organized, thus, new company - “Moet-Hennessy”. In 1987, Louis Vuitton joined the company.

Now, the concern LVMH possesses numerous wine, champagne and cognac brands, and has full independence. It owns 620 hectares the ground borrowed for vineyards. At the head of concern is Gill Hennessy, a descendant of family in the eighth generation.
