Among the basic factors which contributed to the outbreak of the First World War,none seems to be of more signifigance than the economic rivalry between Great Britain and Germany.Following the establishment of the German Empire in 1871, the Germans had developed their industrial power at a stupendous rate .Within three decades Germany was transformed from a largely rural economy into the most advanced industrial nation in Europe.By 1900 ,her heavy industry was producing as much iron and steel as Britain and by 1914 more then Britain and France combined.
