Need help on personification

Hi,

These examples of personification seem good because I got them from a very authoritative source, but aside from the Biblical or Bible-related content, how can we discern or judge how much is reasonable, or for that matter, what is reasonable?

I think the villages one is easy. It simply refers to the people who live in those villages.

But when it comes to the Bible, I think even stones and roads are personified, so a mountain rejoicing seems quite normal to me.
