Need help on Definition Essay

Question

Ok I havent gotten started because I dont really know how to start out my definition essay. I picked the topic 'feminism'. I am going to explain it in a way that everyone views feminism; like every woman is naturally a feminist and believes in feminist views. Then I am going to tell it from my perspective: just because I am a woman it does not mean I believe feminism will fix problems that women have with men, it will only seperate the two genders and in the end raise women higher than men. I want people to understand that the only way to get rid of labels is to not add anymore than we already have, everyones lable should just be human.

Any suggestions would be great.

There are an infinite number of ways to write an essay. Rather than thinking about it endless, just quickly sketch out an outline, and start writing.

If you assigned me an essay on feminism, I might look at Gloria Steinham (spelling?) defines feminism, and then modify her definition to suit mine. I'd show where my definition is better for whatever reasons. Or I might look at how some comedians define it, or maybe even use the dictionary, or ask my mom, or my sister, or my pet cat.

As a word to the wise, when you pick a topic like feminism, you usually strike some sort of an emotional chord with the teacher/professor. Unless they think like you, your essay will not get the full credit it deserves. Instead, the teacher will see your essay through her bias. I'd prefer to do an essay on a topic where the teacher has no prior knowledge.
