Proficiency Tests & Test-taking

Need HELP!!!/ I have a question about the test I took today!

I took an English test at school today, and I have a question about it.(I'm not a native English speaker!)

The question was to find out the key points to the following two paragraphs, (A) and (B).

In other words, I had to find the key factors of the inventions in the stories.

(A)The microwave oven was a happy accident. The inventor named Percy Spencer was doing an eperiment on radar in 1946. During the experiment, he noticed something strange. A chocolate in his pants was melting. Spencer realized this immportant moment. This time, he tried another experiment, placing popcorn close to the radio waves. Soon, popcorn was popping out over the floor! Spencer realized that these microwaves could cook foods quickly. Using his new idea, he went on to make the first microwave oven.

(B)There's the cast cooler, which was invented by 14-year-old Krysta Morlan in 1998. By that time, Krysta had to wear casts on and off for many years. She could not stand the itch under the cast. Instead of sitting and doing nothing, she came up with the idea of putting air into the cast through a tube. Thanks to her strong will, people wearing casts can now keep their skin dry, cool, and comfortable.

And these are the options.

  1. (a) Pay attention to the small things in life because they can lead you to a greater understanding of life.

(b)Write down what you need for the experiment and prepare everything before you start.

  2. (a)Inventions often come out of life problems.

(b)Positive thinking helps you solve problems.

  3. (a)Keep a record of what you do and what happens in your experiment.

(b)Think about problems and find solutions in a creative way.

  4. (a)Don't give up, and you will make your dream come true someday.

(b)Focus on real life problems to make a great invention.

  5. (a)Don't miss anything unusual while you are looking for something.

(b)Keep trying to solve problems when you face difficulties in your life.

The answer to the question was option 5 and I chose the 3rd one.

But I thought that 'looking for something' part in 5th option was not suited for the situation since Percy Spencer didn't really have a goal or the reason behind the experiment and he wasn't looking for something in specific.

And I believe that option 3 can make sense in this situation since keep a record can also meen keep your mental attention on something and Percy Spencer did invent the microwave oven by carefully keeping track on what's happening in the experiment.

What do you guys think?

Tell me your opinions, and I would really appreciate it. Emotion: smile

(I join this website today to ask this question, so pardon me if this is not a place to ask this kind of questions!)

Hi I'll go with 3. Keep writing things down. There will be days when you realise that what you've written isn't that good and that's OK.

  • Point 5 comes into it - you wrote something and then notice something new in it But most inventors wrote a lot of stuff and threw it away.
  • It's a mistake to think they arrived at a new idea without doing that Dave

Hi

I'll go with 3. Keep writing things down. There will be days when you realise that what you've written isn't that good and that's OK. Point 5 comes into it - you wrote something and then notice something new in it

But most inventors wrote a lot of stuff and threw it away. It's a mistake to think they arrived at a new idea without doing that
