Need help for some words

1) Are the following sentence and the word in red correct?
" I'm interested in electric devices and their functioning."
I want to use a proper word meaning "operation". If not correct, what is the right word?

2) I want a word meaning "unfunctioning" ( I know "unfunctioning" is not a right word, but I need to know a word meaning "not operating") for the following sentence:

"I used to take unfunctining devices apart and fix them."

Thank you very much.

Hi Alpachino,
Welcome to English forums.

I would use the terms "non-functioning," "inoperative," "faulty" or "broken."
