Is it more important for school children to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree ?
Some people considered that children who are studying at school should learn about the history of their country instead of the history of the world. I totally disagree with this view. Because I believed that both local history and world history have equal importance for them to learn.
On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why school children should learn local history. Firstly, knowing about the past of their religions make them forster a sense of belonging and pride in each child. For example,if the youngsters in Vietnam learn about how their earlier generations fought and made scacrifices for the freedom of the country, they will appreciate the liberty that they enjoy today. In addition, when young students assimilate their religion's history, they will understand the importance of the origins and core values of their motherland. So that, as shapers of a nation's tomorrow, they will deeper understanding each traditional event, and be motivated to keep the customs standing with the time.
On the other hand, the world history can not be underestimated. The modern trend towards globalization makes it necessary to have some knowledge about other wthnic groups and diffirent tradions. Armed with this broader perspective, it will easier for them to intergrate into a new society. Another important factor is that a study of world history provides young peoplee the ability of seeing the big picture of the inter-relationship of nations and how the international events, such as the end of the colonialism, have shaped our contemporary society.
In conclusion, it seems to me that it is equally important for children at school to learn local history as well as world history.
