Need for restate the subject

Hi. I've seen in research articles some examples like the following:

In this work, 14 types of poems were considered. Among them, 4 are Japanese and 2 are Korean. All the remaining types are from Europe.

However, I've read an article about writing in English that states that it's important to restate the subject. For instance:

In this work, 14 types of poems were considered. Among them, 4 types are Japanese and 2 types are Korean. All the remaining types are from Europe.

I've thought that modern English was more direct, thus allowing to omit "types" in the example above. Am I wrong? Is it better to repeat?
