Hi everybody,

Could you please explain the meaning of each sentence?

#1 The process that takes less time will be assigned next.

#2 The process that would take less time will be assigned next.

Thank you

For #1: 'Less' tells us that there are 2 processes, a shorter one and a longer one. 'Next' tells us that the assignment indicated in this sentence is the second assignment, that is, the first assignment was given previously. Therefore, the longer process was assigned before and the shorter process will be assigned in the future.

  • For #1: 'Less' tells us that there are 2 processes, a shorter one and a longer one.
  • 'Next' tells us that the assignment indicated in this sentence is the second assignment, that is, the first assignment was given previously.
  • Therefore, the longer process was assigned before and the shorter process will be assigned in the future.
  • For #2: 'Would' tells us that the shorter assignment is no longer shorter.
  • Otherwise, the logic is the same as for #1.
