Need definite articles here?

Hi. Please help me with these.

1) In the Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary, there are two listed definitions for the word "reparation" and the second one is this.

Reparation is help or payment that someone gives you for damage, loss, or suffering that they have caused you.

What would be the difference if we put the definite article "the" in front of the word "damage"?

2) For the example sentence below, what would be the difference if we put the definite article "the " before the word "wisdom"?

We need wisdom that is greater than what we can acquire on our own.

I am sorry but I think I should have written the name of the thread I started as "Would definite articles here be optional or OK?" instead of "Need definite articles here?" For one, it would be very hard to imagine a refutable source like the Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary might write a questionable definition in their dictionaries.

"Wisdom" might be countable in something like this:
We need the wisdom to know when we require help
