Need correction on reported Speech Sentence

Hi teachers,
According to this sentence:
Needed information: Baxter is a detective. Halls is a policeman.
Baxter said, “You drive. You know the area better than I do.”
Isn't that 'you drive' imperative, even though it doesn't have an exclamation mark?
If that is so, shouldn't this one be the corresponding reported speech sentence?
Baxter told Halls to drive and added (that) he knew the area better than he did.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Say - Baxter told Halls to drive and added (that) Halls knew the area better than he did. Note that a detective is also a policeman. I think you mean that Halls is 'a uniformed policeman'.
