need clarification

I was reading an Time article about a new wine book. there are some incomprehensible expressions; while i do get the feeling but cannot figure out the exact meaning.

" It explains terroir, weather, corks, grape varieties and how to drink and enjoy wine, before delving into geography. Johnson's and Robinson's style is informed and expert but not a lecture, always delivered with the right amount of cheek."

What does "the right amount of cheek" mean?
i do know cheek means haughtiness but cannot make any sense out of it

Referring to "tongue in cheek" which mean to joke in a certain way. The speaker pretends to be very serious, but then everyone realizes that he is joking, perhaps making fun of himself.
