Hi;

It is the regular verb learn. There are parts for the verb: learn, learned, learning

Mary is six years old. She is learning the letters and numbers. (Present, progressive, active voice) She learns quickly. (present)

Letters and numbers are often learned by children at a young age. (present, passive voice)

John is eight years old. He has learned to read. (present perfect.)

Jane is only two years old. This year she will learn the names of colors. (future)

By the end of the year, she will have learned at least ten colors. (future perfect)

Learning can be fun for young children. (Present participle, used as a noun. This form is called a gerund.)

Ah, now you have discovered the secret of the passive voice - the actor can be left out.

When you do not want to say who did something, or you do not know who did something, you can use passive voice. e.g.

The woman was robbed.

We know that someone robbed the woman, the woman was the victim of the robbery, but the sentence, in passive voice, does not say who.

Passive voice is used a lot in newpaper reports and scientific articles.

OK, you are talking about neural network (or artificial intelligence) programming.

There is a set of data (the "training set") where both the input and the answers are known in advance. The program "learns" to make associations between the inputs and outputs from the training data set.

The idea is to be able to give the program a similar, but new set of data where the output is not known, and have it give an answer based on its previous learnings.
