She has made a lot of new friends, despite the short time she has lived in Abinger.02br 02br 00In addition, the female protagonist can be characterized as provocative and superficial (l.3), since she enjoys presenting herself in a sensational car, which at the same time shall accentuate her status. 02br 00The fact that she doesn’t like to have children, may identify her as a self-engrossed person who isn’t able to sense altruistic love and feelings for another human being, nor for her husband. Furthermore, Mrs. P. reveals that this is the first time that she is in control of her own life. In other words, she is confronted with new opportunities which were occlusive to her in her former life. This leads her to exhaust and enjoy every moment in her own way and to forget that before she was an unsatisfied person with a static, boring and pessimistic (l.18) life.02br 02br 00Her new optimistic and vital attitude is shown by the fact that she learns to drive by the age of 50. This indicates that before she was anxious and unmotivated.02br 02br 00In contrast to this development stand her relationship with her husband which seems to have degraded. Describing that she used to undertake activities “with Charles in their salad days”, she now haven’t got anything in common with him. Quite the contrary, as her independence on money and status may be the only reasons for achieving this relationship. In fact she hides her problems (l.3, l.40) in order to sustain an acceptable to perfect image of herself within the society.02br 02br 00An aspect that may not have changed over the years is her naive and spoiled position as she is used that things are done by themselves and that life should not offer her any negative aspect.02br 02br 00A helping activity is her shopping which serves as a therapy that deflects her from reality.0-
