Need

I need to get a haircut.
Could someone please explain that "need" is a stative verb and not an action?
One tip I saw on Internet that you can replace it with "to be" and if it makes sense then it's a stative verb e.g.
It tastes good.
It is good.

Can't you sit quietly in a chair and have the thought in your head that you need something? While you're needing (something), I'm sure there are some molecular actions going on in your brain, but you aren't exactly jumping around and working up a sweat, are you?
