Necessary for a good reason

0Hi,02br
02br
00I see often the verbs that have prepositions after them and wonder if they are necessary to say what they want to say or are they there for no valid reasons?02br
02br
001. We need to 01u00print up02u00 a large number of cards for Christmas. -- Would just 'print' be good? I think it would be.02br
02br
002. You need to 01u00write out02u00 the questions. -- Here, a person is putting more emphasis on the 'writing' aspect of the sentence, so he decides to add 'out', I think. Necessary, in my view.02br
02br
003. We will meet up at Believer Station at 5 p.m. and start heading for the meeting place. -- Here, a case of more emphasis, as in sentence 2, and will be better if 'up' is there, IMO.02br

00Do you have some recommendations for those of us who have some confusion on this aspect of grammar?0-

01font00These are purely examples of colloquial English. As you say, the prepositions could be omitted and the sentences would be understood.02font02br

0 In the cases where the adverbial particle is optional after the verb, as in 01u00all three02u00 of your examples, the particle adds a bit of informal "spice", I think. The particle adds a subtle touch of meaning that can only be understood after prolonged exposure to such expressions. My recommendation is to imitate the speech and writing of native speakers.02br
