Neat & Tidy

Hi,

What's the difference between "neat" and "tidy"?
The book has provided some adjectives with which students should describe their rooms. The mentioned words are among them.

I'd appreciate any help in advance,

Iman

To my knowledge, the 'only' difference is neat can also be used to describe the appearance of living entities and describe a job well done as in 'Neat job!'. It simply has more meanings (is more general) than tidy. Some people also prefer to say neat movie/ shoes/ painting etc to compliment something which meets their standards.

Neat, clean and tidy are very close in meaning and they are sometimes used interchangeably.
But as for the difference, being neat deal more with being orderly and organized.
So if you have everything on its place, then you are neat.
But I cannot think of any situation that you can say one place is neat but not tidy.
They are kind of synonyms that collocate with each other. Neat
