Nearby, near

He sat nearby me.
He sat near me.
He is staying near to my house.
He just went somewhere near.

Please correct my sentences and provide me with better versions.

Sometimes someone calls me and ask about the other person in my room. I reply to them "He is not in, went somewhere", then they ask "where?", I reply "I don't know, but somewhere nearby".

The words «nearby» and «near» are very similar in meaning, however, there are some differences too. The word «near« can be used as an adjective and as a preposition but «nearby» can be used as an adjective but not as a preposition.
