near miss/close call

In one survey, 62 percent of teenagers admitted they had been distracted while crossing the road. They were talking to friends, chatting on a cellphone, listening to music, or just thinking about something else. The same teens reported that they had either been in an accident or near miss.

Is it OK to replace "in a near miss" in the above with "in a close call?" Thanks.
