Vocabulary

Ndr, ndt

Hi,

I'm sorry I put the Italian version of the two abbreviations in the subject line, but I don't know what the English version is.

When you're reading a book that has been translated from another language, it sometimes happens that either the editor or the translator want to insert a note within the text to maybe clarify a point of translation or to rectify a point that intervening circumstances have invalidated.
In my language, you will find ndr (lit. note by the editor) or ndt (lit. note by the translator) in the text used like so,

- text text text text [(ndr): bla bla bla] text text.

Does this happen in English as well? What are the abbreviations used?

Thank you
H.
