Nature of conjunctive adverbs

Hi. I think a conjunctive adverb can be thought of as a device to link ideas between sentences or clauses by showing such things as sequence and comparison. I also think an adverb should answer such questions as "how," "when" and "what degree."

What I am not sure is how what I think are some functions of a conjunctive adverb as indicated above (I think i did) can be linked as to answer questions like "how," "when" and "what degree." I think it is hard me to see a conjunctive adverb in terms of the traditional (?) explanation of an adverb answering such questions as "how," "when" and "what degree."
