Also consider:
"I read a comic book with my/some friends yesterday."

As far as the English is concerned, it's fine. However, it sounds as if you all read the same comic book together at the same time, which to me seems just slightly unusual behaviour. But, of course, I'm not saying you can't have done that.

American English uses the book after comic. In England, it's not needed. The word comic, is enough.
