Could you tell me why "He woke up to become a star overnight" sounds awkward? Could you paraphrase it as it is interpreted?

lucas21cHe woke up to become a star overnight.
This means he woke up so that at some later time he could become a star overnight. I don't think you mean that.

The most typical usage is "... woke up to find that ..."

He woke up to find that he had become a star overnight.

Then, how about "The Zen monk lived to find everything was a sham?" What I want to say with the sentence is the Zen monk died (soon) after he realized everything was a sham.
