Natural sentence

I heard a non native student say 'I have a class in statistics'. Is that grammatical and natural and does it mean 'I have a statistics class'?

I am not sure that it is right to say 'in statistics or in math'.

It is fine and common. Presumably it means 'a class in a statistics/math course'.
