Natural expression

Could you tell me whether the following sentence is right and natural? Thank you in advance.

He is only a stupid man who is only intellectually smart, and so unconsciously hurts those who he really loves.

Top answer

He is just a stupid man who is merely smart intellectually. As a result, he subconsciously hurts those whom he really loves. "Unconsciously" means he is not conscious.

It is very judgmental and dismissive.
It repeats "only" which is not good style.
"stupid" and "smart" are contradictory terms. Consider using other words..

Unconscious is fine.

Thank you, Dave, for you help. By the way, unfortunately, I think yours might be different from what I'd like to say because 'he' is not a clever one, but actually a stupid one since he is merely smart intellectually and so he always hurts the people he really loves, although he do not want or intend that.

If the sentence is to work that way

- He's a fool and he always ends up hurting someone

I think that is missing the important fact that he is intellectually smart. I am afraid it might be interpreted that he is just a fool.

I see what you mean. You could say

- Although he is smart, he often hurts people

I"m struggling with the idea that he hurts people unintentionally (or unconsciously) and that makes him a "bad person" or "stupid."

I'm sure we've all met super smart people who are utterly clueless in how their actions or words impact others, so they are unaware, but that doesn't make them, for example, misanthropic (great word, A Stars) or "stupid."

The poor fool doesn't realiz
