Natural disasters

Hello, can you correct my essay? I usually have problems with register and I find it very difficult to develop ideas. If you consider I should change some part or if I have some grammar mistakes, please let me know. It's very hard for me to write! Thank you!

What are some of the effects of a natural disaster?
A natural disaster is a sudden calamitous event that bring damage, loss and destruction. No matter where the disaster takes place, it always have profound consequences on human life and its environment.
The most immediate effect of a natural hazard is the physical destruction of the area where this event took place. The landscape changes dramatically in the blink of an eye: streets and avenues ruined, cars wrecked, houses totally shattered. Everywhere and everything is in pieces.
Nevertheless, there is an even more devastating result: the great amount of dead people and the more that are disappeared. In such cases where a hurricane or an earthquake strikes a place, rescue teams rush to the emergency area and carry out extensive searches for survivors. Yet, they are not always successful.
Even though casualties are important, the priority in this case is the people who survived. The aim is in providing them with food, water, first aid, and shelter. After a natural disaster, shortages of food and water are common. For that reason, relief supplies are delivered from other cities by people who is willing to cooperate. Sheltering is also very important. After such utter destruction, many people find themselves homeless. In this situation, it is the government the responsible for taking the approppriate measures so that victims can come back to their homes when life returns to normal. In the meantime, institutions such as stadiums, schools and other public buildings serve as temporary shelters.
The repercussions of a natural calamity are numerous; therefore, it is important that people receive an adequate preparation before an event of this kind occurs. Moreover, Government policies must be framed according to the victims' needs. Earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes are almost unpredictable, but it is essential to be equipped with all the necessary knowledge in order to mitigate them.
