When I think of simply the phrase 'Thin sheet' I think of a very flat, thin peice of possibly metal, or maybe like a peice of paper. This descrtipion sounds really ambiguous and weird to me, as no context is given. ).

Lisa, that's exactly what I needed. When I first read the text, I was sure a piece of paper was ment. But then I looked online and it seemed to be a common collocation for a thin piece of metal. However, I wasn't sure, every native speaker of English would automatically think of metal. Thank you for your answer!
