How would you know it's he and not she?

In English we almost never have a male/female difference for Nationalities and Professions like you do in Spanish. You would probably have to ask to find out or be left with the curiosity. Sometimes the next sentence will tell you.
E.g. I had a Polish Teacher. SHE used to give a lot of homework.
The SHE lets you know that the teacher was a woman.
