National Day Celebrations around the world

It is the Chilean National day on the 18th September.
Lots of BBQ's and kite-flying. Yes, in Chile everyone is out flying kites, both adults and kids.
There are 'fondas' which are like open community parties with music, dancing a lots of drinking and eating empanadas (a type of meat turnover). The next day(19th) is also a holiday called 'the army day' where traditionally the army parades past the president with their full uniforms that have recently-shined buttons etc. People really get behind the celebrations, very patriotic with a lot of dancing of the 'cueca' (the national dance).
This year there will be no work for many on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Also on the 17th, people generally work a half day. How's that for celebrating the national day, almost five days to do some serious liver damage.
Did you know that in Chile it is compulsory to fly a Chilean flag during the national days from every building and house otherwise you get fined. This is a law that still hasn't been changed since the dictatorship.
When is your national day and how do you celebrate it?

I don't know if we have one. There are special days like Constitution Day, on the 6th December.

Our National Day is October, 3rd.

On 3rd of October 1990, both German states "Federal Republic of Germany" (West Germany) and "German Democratic Republic" (East Germany) have been officially reunited.

We don't really celebrate this day. There is usually a great festival in Berlin around the Brandenburger Tor and some politicians usually hold a speech then.

Australia Day is the 26th January, which is the date in 1788 when the first fleet led by British naval commander Arthur Philip landed at Sydney Cove and established the first European colony. On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. In communities across the nation, Australians take to the streets, the beach, parks and backyards
