What would you like to achieve through your experience?
The ability for airplanes to fly has always propelled my curiosity and leads me to pursue a career in aerospace engineering. The opportunity that NASA Inspire provides is unparalleled for many reasons. I would like to have a higher understanding of NASA missions and undertake challenges to resolve them for new missions. Participation in Inspire’s summer STEM experience would allow me to explore my interests in aerospace through the unique activities and challenges. I also want to establish a strong network of passionate NASA scientists who want to further their knowledge and quench their intrinsic curiosity of the last frontier.
Please explain how both you and NASA will benefit from having you as a participant in the INSPIRE Online Learning Community.
For the past two years, I have participated in the state science fair. Although I did not experiment in the field of aerospace, I will be able to broaden my horizon for potential projects by joining the Inspire OLC. I believe that my peers and professional scientists in the OLC will increase my cognition in the field and help me shape my aspirations in the future.
NASA would benefit with the perseverance, teamwork, flexibility, and diversity that I bring to the OLC. I have continuously demonstrated my perseverance of committing to a certain task and completing it no matter what. I also have extensive experience with working in teams for science related projects, and am flexible for compromising a solution if the situation arises. My father’s job, along with my Indian heritage, has allowed me to experience many cultures across the world, which will allow me to bring new insights and diversify the OLC.
Please tell us some interesting facts about yourself that you would like to share as it relates to being considered for this project. (i.e. leadership, extracurricular activities, hobbies, special interest)
I believe it is important for an aerospace engineer to get a pilot’s view. I have spent countless hours reveling with Microsoft Flight Simulator, but age has been an impediment for me to obtain a pilot license. Now that I have all the requirements needed, I will pursue my passion in the coming school year. I have been playing the violin for over seven years, and for the last two years, I have played in my school’s nationally recognized Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I played in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra of Atlanta where I flourished by playing various genres of music to gain more experience. I am part of the Science Olympiad Team where I have earned numerous medals for engineering and physics events. I also co-founded a club called Global Citizens that has helped Darfur children earn a better education. I have been the secretary for three years and have helped organize various fundraisers, set up live video chat with our sister-school, and brought a guest speaker so the entire school would know about the dire help needed for those Sudanese children.
