Names of planets

The sun
Mercury
Vinus
The earth
Mars
...

Why among all the names for planets, do only sun and earth go with "the"?

Thank you.

Technically, the sun isn't a planet. But we also use the article "the" with our moon. It's probably because the Earth is the only planet we inhabit, the sun is the only start we orbit, and the moon is our only satellite.
