Names

I wanted to name my baby Raelynn but i would like to spell it with a sort of hyphen. I would like it to show Rae'Lynn. Is this possible?

Hi, People have a lot of freedom to choose unusual names these days. But do you want her to spend her life telling people how to write her name? I think that's what will happen.

With a hyphen it would look like this: Rae-Lynn. What you have in an apostrophe. I don't know whether you can legally use an apostrophe in the middle of a name. Why not just have Rae as a first name and Lynn as a middle name, and use them both? Or write it as one word, but with two capital letters: RaeLynn.

As a former high school teacher, I came across lots of names with extraneous hyphens, apostrophes and accents, most of which seemed to be somewhat pretentious. However, it's your baby, and you can spell the name any way you want.
