Name of the insect...

Hi

What is the name of the dark black insect which is almost as common as ants (at least in Pakistan), but mostly found on tress. Its bite is painful but not dangerous.

On the page that I see, there are no insects in the picture to the extreme left, second down. In row 2, column 2, I see a black insect, but this is a type of ant. htm , explains that it's a carpenter ant.
