Name

HI! My name is Johan, I'm of Swedish origin. I'm moving to America to study. I'm wondering if I can call myself something similar to Johan, but that sounds more English. Like Jay or Joey? If you have any suggestions please share! Thanks!

John is a common name in Sweden. But it's not related to Johan in the way I mean. so it would feel weird to call my self John. I'm thinking about an abbreviation or something

Anything you like that begins with a J seems appropriate. John, Jim, James, Joe, Joseph, Jack, Jake, Josh, Jay, ...

But since you're Swedish, you may be accidentally pronouncing initial J as we pronounce Y, and that would not be a good idea. You want your name to sound more English, but it would sound less English if you said
