In many cities, there is little control on the design and construction of new houses. Some people think that people can choose to build houses in their own styles instead of building them with the same as the old house style in local areas. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? It is observed that in some areas, house owners are allowed to build their houses as they please rather than conforming with the style of existing houses in their local areas. While I acknowledge the drawbacks of this trend, they are far outweighed by the benefits. Admittedly, allowing people to build houses in whatever style they like can be disadvantageous for several reasons. The key reason is that in some urban areas, most houses follow a certain style of architecture, giving off a sense of uniformity. This has an aesthetic value to some people, so allowing too much freedom in this case is believed to ruin the appearance of the neighborhood. Furthermore, some house owners choose to value style over safety, building houses that look beautiful but might easily collapse if there were an earthquake. This can be a safety hazard for the owners themselves and their neighbors. However, the advantages of this trend are far more significant. On an individual level, people can freely express their personal tastes if they are permitted to decide the style of their houses. This is often associated with a higher level of contentment since people can live in their dream homes. On an aesthetic level, although a uniform appearance is sometimes considered beautiful, many people prefer a more dynamic look of their neighborhood, with houses of different colors, shapes and sizes. Therefore, according to some, having complete freedom to choose the style of their houses can bolster the appearance of the neighborhood rather than destroying it. In conclusion, the benefits of giving people freedom to design their houses according to their own personal preferences can outstrip the drawbacks. This is provided that house owners adhere to strict safety regulations to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
