Myself

Hi

I'm just wondering when I should use "myself" and when to omit it?

1. I recollected myself that I left it ...
2. I remined myself that i left it ...
3. I remembered myself that I left it ...

The reflexive use of "myself" occurs when you have a transitive verb and the object is you. For example, "I hurt myself" "I confused myself" "I washed myself" "myself" can also be used to reinforce the fact that the subject is you. For example, "I can't do this myself" "I made it myself" "I myself saw how bad it was" #2 falls into the first category and is OK (except you forgot to capitalise "I").

  • #1 and #3 aren't right: here you're not remembering or recollecting yourself , you're remembering or recollecting some other matter.
  • #1 and #3 could theoretically fit the second category, but in practice it's unlikely in these sentences and I doubt that's what you had in mind.
